Holidays in Israel are traditionally a time of “tzedaka,” the Hebrew word for charity. Each Passover, the Jerusalem Institute of Justice, together with local volunteers and activists, facilitates a project for needy families during this important time. And the need is growing: according to a survey found in the Jewish Federations of North America 2009 report on the Israeli Economy, Passover in 2009 saw a 40% increase in families seeking aid. We are helping meet this need every year by distributing holiday packages and/or food vouchers to poor and underprivileged families, providing for everything needed for the seven day holiday – matzot, wine, cooking oil, seasonings, cookies, candies etc.
